Friendly Competition with a Splash of Fun!

This July, we welcomed a wonderful group of young adults for some Olympics-inspired games and a summer fun Pool Party! The Games opened with a torch led parade into St. Joseph’s Hall as DJ Steve blasted the Olympic theme and spectators waved American flags to welcome the competitors. The games were officiated by our visiting friends: members of Catholic Young Adult groups from Connecticut and Massachusetts. As medal points were scored by our resident Olympians, the young friends kept the tallies and gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded for each event! There was a javelin throw, target toss, indoor golf, beach ball soccer and a timed wheelchair course outdoors for our bravest competitors with the help of strong young friends! Participants gave their best in the competitions with cheers and encouragement from the sidelines. Mother Maureen presented medals to the winners, who will be recognized again at the Olympics Closing Ceremony on August 12.

After the games, as DJ Steve Savage kept the summer tunes playing and our young friends shared their talents in karaoke, dancing and singalongs.

What a gift to spend the day with these remarkable young adults, who led the games so efficiently and filled the day with laughter, song, and friendship! To commemorate the blessing of these friendships, a gift of a prayer card for World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly was provided by the residents to each of the young adults as they left. We hope they visit again soon!
