A little-known feast day, the Betrothal of St. Joseph to the Virgin Mary on January 23, was the perfect occasion to celebrate the annual feast of our Home. With the major feasts of St. Joseph (March 19, Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1, St. Joseph the Worker) already meriting big celebrations in the tradition of the Little Sisters of the Poor, this lesser feast provided the ideal occasion to celebrate our patron for his role in the humble and hidden work of St. Jeanne Jugan which takes place daily here at St. Joseph’s Residence.
Highlighting the theme of this feast day, our Residents were invited to lend us their wedding pictures for a display. This was the centerpiece of our afternoon gathering, which also included fried dough treats and music that brought us to our feet.
We thank our “good St. Joseph” (as he was referred to in the earliest days of the Little Sisters of the Poor) for his example of quiet and devoted faithfulness to all the God asked of him.
Good Saint Joseph, pray for us!
